Happy Trails

Today I went on my first trail ride of the year. My horse, Rio, is out of commission due to a suspensory ligament injury in his hind leg, but a new friend loaned me a horse for today.  Our trail was Green Canyon, the canyon just north of Logan Canyon. It was beautiful! Great trails, with hardly any rocks, reminded me of Snow Basin.  My trail partner for the day was a 13 year old Paso Fino gelding named Durazno.  He is a very experienced, down to business trail horse and was a complete joy to ride.  His gaits were everything from a nice, easy walk to his “racing” largo (fast gait) that placed him 6th in a 50 mile endurance ride. No obstacle was a problem.  He was about as tall as Rio, (about 14.1 hands) but was built much stockier.  Again, fantastic horse.  My human trail partners for the ride were P.P. and Dr. NM.  Dr. NM rode his big foxtrotter gelding, and PP rode Bolero, a 13 hand Paso Fino “dirt bike” with turbo booster…..  It was fun to make new friends and see some new trails. :)

Below: and me with Durazno! He's a dark buckskin and oh such a nice horse!
