Remember Half Moon Lake in the winter? it was frozen solid and we'd play fetch with the dogs...and I did L's epic sword photo shoot on the frozen lake...well...now it is lovely and shimmery. On A's day off, (May 5th) he and I drove to the Lake to see what it looked like, all thawed. On the road there, we came across a raging torrent of snow melt. Wahoo!
This time we drove to the end of the dirt road, on the east side of the lake. Past the Half Moon Lake restaurant/lodge, and to the trail head. The road there is mostly passable for a horse trailer, except for one short section of massive potholes....maybe they will fix that? At the trail head we let the crazy dogs out and headed toward the trail, then veered off to stand on the shore of the lake.
In the far right corner, at the edge of the trees and water is the restaurant...(tiny)
Of course, Phoenix is jubilant to have water available again...
There was a faint trail along the edge of the lake, so we opted for that...
Looking north-ish...
Wahoo! Balsam Root!
And Oregon Grape?
Can you see Phoenix in the photo below?
We enjoyed our short (half mile) stroll along the lake so much we decided to take the kids back ASAP. That story is coming up next...in Half Moon Lake, Episode 2...
