LavaLava

Over MLK Weekend we left Pinedale to join some of my family for a weekend get-away at Lava Hot Springs, ID. My sister had reserved a conference center which had its own private hot pool, right on the river. How could we resist, right?  So we loaded our stuff, found a place to board the dogs, and off we went, driving toward Jackson and Star Valley.  Again, the scenery was amazing.  I'm excited to see if the wilderness here is as pretty in the spring....

Below:  The Wind Rivers

Below: A mountain range that looks so much like the Wellsvilles from Cache Valley...I call them the Wyoming Wellsvilles--even though they are part of the Gros Ventre Mountains.

Again, the Wind Rivers....below...

Below: the Wyoming Range, west of Pinedale. We are told by the locals these mountains have some of the best camping, and don't have the "crowds" the Winds have.

Below: North and east of Pinedale, the Gros Ventre wilderness and range....

Still driving towards Jackson, along the Hoback River...

Yes, 10 miles to a hot spring, that's 10 miles on a snowmobile...

Below: the gorgeous Hoback River

There was LOTS of gaming...of the best kind....

And A, along with a couple of other brave/crazy souls dipped themselves in the river. No, the water was not warm. But they had a hot pool to soak in afterward....

And the epic pizza party, with homemade pizza dough that was divine.

We had a wonderful time simply hanging out with friends/family.  Thank you H, for arranging the whole thing.  It was just one big slumber party!  Loved it!

And on the way home, as we were traveling from ID to Star Valley, I saw my very first honest to goodness wild wolf. It was loping off through the snow into the aspen trees, away from the road and clearing.  It was BIG, and dark grey, and was NOT a coyote. On our drives here in WY, I have seen more bald eagles, golden eagles, deer, falcons, hawks, swans, rabbits, elk and moose than I have EVER seen before, (which is saying something, because we saw a LOT in Cache Valley.....) and now a wild wolf. SO COOL.

The number of things this post makes me jealous of is embarrassing. I'm so glad you guys had such a great time! Looks like quite the epic party.
