Deja Vu (from 6 years ago)

You know the wildfire is too close to your home when:

  • The neighbors are talking about getting out the marshmallows and hotdogs...
  • You find yourself dusting the ash off your horses...
  • You can feel the water drips from the 100 gallon bucket the helicopter overhead is hauling to the fire...
  • You find yourself hanging out with the firefighters, being told how you never want to get that  fire retardant on your clothes....
  • A fire truck is parked in your neighbor's yard because it is the "last line of defense"...
  • You have a mental checklist of all the things you will grab in case of evacuation..
  • You are making sure your fire insurance is up to date...
  • You compare cool photos with your neighbors on Facebook...
  • Your whole house smells like you've been camping for a week...
  • Your view of the meteor shower is obstructed by smoke...
  • Your child is depressed that the whole mountain is "so black"...
  • Your morning run is a maze of firetrucks...
  • In between meetings at church, everyone goes outside to see how the fire is doing...
  • There are more people out on your road watching the fire, than there are watching the parade on the 4th...
  • You know what the campfires of Mordor's armies may have looked like...

Photos below all taken from our yard, or our road:

The wildfire (top) racing towards the back fire (bottom).  Fighting fire with fire totally worked in this case and many homes were saved.  Yay for awesome firefighters!

Awesome photos, T! I guess we were out of town when this all went down. So glad you all are safe. And the gratitude letter from the fire fighters that I read somewhere (Facebook?) was amazing as well. Thanks for sharing!
